About

Hello,

I grew up in beautiful rural Massachusetts and Connecticut and learned to appreciate the natural world around me.

I served in the U. S. Marine Corps in Vietnam.  Later, I operated excavation equipment, worked on a tunnel project, a landfill, and in the construction trades.

I entered the recycling field as a plant manager of the first modern Materials Recovery Facility (Groton, CT) for Resource Recovery Systems, Inc.  I managed the construction of a public-private dual- stream MRF (Athens, GA).  As a recycling plant manager (Casella Waste Systems) I managed the construction and conversion of a single-stream MRF from an existing dual-stream plant in VT.  I have managed a Dallas MRF for Alllied Waste.  I currently work in maintenance in a 40-unit apartment building in Minnesota.
This blog is for people who want to see recycling remain a viable business and activity.

With over 15-years of experience building and running MRFs, I will share practical information, tips, and news  about recycling issues from my unique insider viewpoint.  I hold an A. S. degree from Three Rivers Community College (Major: Hazardous Materials Technology).
I will suggest better shopping choices we can all make (precycling) to reduce waste. My wife (and editor), Laura, will share simple things we do in our home to recycle and reuse things.

And because recycling is not new, we will look to past generations for inspiration as well.  As a citizen, father and grandfather of five granddaughters, I want to help make the world a healthier and safer place for kids to grow up in.
