Post Take-Aways

Key ideas.
Jay Maceyka

Post 1.   Paper is one of the easiest things we can keep out of landfills.  Paper recycling is good for America.
Post 2.  Recycling, using landfills or waste-to-energy plants are better for the environment than burning trash in the backyard.
Post 3. Preventing contamination starts with educated citizens acting responsibly with their recycling and waste materials.
Post 4.  People recycle when it's convenient and social.
Post 5.  Laws that ban e-waste from landfills, set-up e-recycling programs, and involve both consumers and manufacturers are needed globally.
Post 6.   At the very least, recyclers should wash their cans to reduce exposing MRF laborers to toxins and to make them less attractive to rodents.
Post 7.  Fresh cut trees are a specialty crop that can be enjoyed and recycled in different ways. There's no one right method.
Post 8.   Old glass can be reused in many applications and should be recycled.  Other states can learn from Oregon's sensible example by collecting glass in separate bins.
Post 9.  Trash-to-energy should not be thought of as "renewable energy" but these projects are a good use of the greenhouse gases (GHGs) that landfills produce.
Post 11.  When old or damaged appliances have to be discarded, they must be recycled by trained technicians because they contain hazardous toxic chemicals.
Post 12.  It's important to be open to new things.  But trash should not be confused with natural renewable energy.
Post 13 When people understand the need for conservation, they will promote and practice it everywhere.
Post. 14. Recycling debris is hard and dangerous work. Laborers worldwide contribute to public health after natural disasters by recycling and safely disposing of a wide variety of materials.
Post. 15.  Wisconsin has made 20 years of progress in the area of recycling.  This is no time to quit leading.
Post 16.  Purchasing products made from post-consumer recycled materials, whenever possible, is the way to go.
Post 17.  The Army is taking important initiatives that the business and non-profit sectors can learn from.
Post 18.
When we're dealing with practical uses for garbage, someone in the past has probably already thought of it.
Post 20.
For a small investment, it is now possible for many people to buy an efficient printer that will help save our natural resources.

Post 21.  One major benefit of diverting hazardous wastes from landfills is to keep underground water cleaner for all life.
Post 23.  Plastic bag deposits or use fees are sensible. If shoppers were all charged a quarter for each plastic bag used, it wouldn't take too long for cloth bags to become widely used instead.
