Recycling has its critics but it's valuable work that must be done. Why? Landfills are one problem. They're where our garbage goes indefinitely. Garbage is ugly. Garbage stinks. We have to cover it up. But even modern landfills can leak and contaminate our water.
Landfills release greenhouse gases. Landfills attract rats and other creatures that spread disease. They attract birds that can cause air traffic accidents.
No one wants to live near a landfill. No one wants to look at them. They upset us. But until people find alternate methods of waste disposal, and recycle much more, we need our landfills. Recycling can help reduce the need for more landfills. This blog is also about precycling--making conscious choices about the things we buy so that we can reduce our waste and/or recycle more of it.
